Exploring El Rosario, Sinaloa

The municipality of El Rosario is located on the south side of the state of Sinaloa, 65 km south Mazatlan; borders on the south with the municipalities of Mazatlan, Concordia and the state of Durango; east with the states of Durango and Nayarit; south with the municipality of Escuinapa and West with the Pacific Ocean.

Be part of the magic of this former mining town. We’ll start in the Chapel of the Santa Cruz, witness of the first population that occupied this territory and that holds the Cruz del Milagro (Cross of the Miracle). Let’s walk together around its historic center; you’ll know the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary with its beautiful altar made of gold that was moved, stone by stone, from its original place; the Mausoleum Museum and Monument to Lola Beltran; the Iguanero Lagoon where the mining works began, in addition to other monuments that speak about the splendor of El Rosario.

Chametla-Rosario

Step into the history of the indigenous Totorames in their community museum and the peculiar Temple of San Pedro Apostol from the XVI century. Taste the tasty coyocoles, prepared since the pre-hispanic era in this region! We’ll climb 230 stairs to get to the overlook where Hernan Cortes sat in 1535 to watch the conquered territory and the new lands that would be given to the Spanish crown. Once we return we’ll walk around the historic town of El Rosario.

Matatan-Hacienda del Tamarindo-Rosario

Would you like to meet the Matachines and see the handcrafters making palm furniture? Then let’s go to Matatan! Beautiful small town settled by the Sierra Madre Occidental with incredible landscapes. Enjoy freshly baked bread and refreshing raspados! At the Hacienda del Tamarindo the locals tell us their beautiful legends, like the one of the Temple of the Virgin of Guadalupe and its ancestral traditions. We’ll explore the Lienzo Charro, the Dam and the Christ of the Millennium. We’ll finish with the visit to the Magical El Rosario.

Mezcal & Magic Route

Cacalotan-El Rosario

Cacalotan is land of the Xiximes and mezcal, where you’ll see by yourself the elaboration of this mexican drink. We’ll walk around its cobblestoned streets admiring the beautiful architecture, visiting the museum and the old temple of Loreto, among other interesting places. Here you can taste the delicious bread baked in mud oven and its ice pops of unique flavors. We’ll continue touring El Rosario, Magical Town.

A wonderful theatrical play that will take you back in time, where you’ll meet characters that contributed to the magic of this town: Ignacio Fletes, Teofilo Noris, El Payo, Lola Beltran, Tula Escobar, Carlos Hubbard and Horacio Llamas, among others.
